The role of the Workplace Supervisor
The main focus of the work placement is to provide a suitable learning environment for the student.
The student will only become competent at a skill with practice. The supervisor should not sign off a student until the student is able to perform this skill in a competent manner.
The student is always supernumerary.
Please feel free to contact the ANMEC Educator to discuss any issues or concerns.
To assist the student, a workplace supervisor should;
-
be a role model for the student
-
provide orientation to the physical environment and supervision with procedures and protocols
-
supervise and provide regular feedback to the student on their workplace performance
-
assess the student’s competency for Skill Assessments
-
ensure the student work within their scope of practice
-
provide overall performance feedback at the end of the student's placement
-
provide feedback to the ANMEC Educator.
The work placement venue will provide the student with access to the workplace which is compliant with all relevant Commonwealth and State legislation.
Please ensure appropriate orientation to the workplace and supervision are provided, and reasonable steps taken to protect the work health and safety of the student during placement. Please notify the ANMEC/HERC staff promptly if any injury occurs to the student or if the student is involved in any incident (or improper conduct).
If at any time a student is considered dangerous in practice, they will be excluded from placement and Educator contacted. The student may be placed on a ‘workplace challenge’ to work towards improving behaviour, however any evidence of continuing danger will result in immediate removal of the student from placement.
