Work Placement Objectives
Students are to work with an experienced mentor to consolidate skills in reprocessing reusable medical devices.
The main objectives are to:

provide the students with the experience to understand the role and responsibilities of a CSSD technician;

provide the opportunity to practice the knowledge and skills; and have their competence assessed in the work setting.

Reprocessing of Reusable Medical Devices
For satisfactory completion of this assessment, the student must demonstrate:
-
competencies in cleaning, disinfecting, inspecting, packaging, sterilising, releasing, storing, and caring for reusable medical devices, while following organisational policies and procedures consistent with AS/NZS 4187;

safe practice consistent with WHS and Infection Control policies and procedures.
Communication and Teamwork
For satisfactory completion of this assessment, the student must demonstrate:
-
competencies in communicating work information, asking for and providing assistance where appropriate;
-
competencies in correct documentation, maintaining privacy and confidentiality;
-
evidence of cultural awareness and respectful behaviour.
